Overview of Products, Technologies, and Services
Many devices, machines and equipment in operation today have serial RS-232/422/485 or CAN-based interfaces.
Most of them work fine, but lack an interface for connecting to a fieldbus or industrial Ethernet network.
This is where the Anybus Communicator gateway comes in.
The existing devices remain in place and can be connected to an industrial PLC control system without any hardware changes or programming.
Product Features
Feature 1 | Make the most of your existing devices, machines and equipment Avoid unnecessary investments by extending the life of your problem-free serial or CAN-based devices: the Anybus Communicator enables you to connect your existing devices, machines and equipment to any fieldbus or industrial Ethernet network. |

Feature 2 | No hardware or software changes required The Anybus Communicator enables network connectivity without changing the equipment used. No hardware or software changes are required on the device side. All data/protocol conversion and mapping to the network is done inside the Anybus Communicator. |
Feature 3 | Easy conversion of serial and CAN protocols for your equipment The high flexibility of the Anybus Communicator enables conversion of almost all RS-232/422/485 Request/Response or Produce/Consume protocols, as well as Modbus RTU, CAN-based and user-specific protocols. No PLC function blocks or programming is required. Once installed and configured, you are ready to go. |
Feature 4 | ■ Cost-effective network connectivity A single Anybus Communicator can connect up to 31 nodes/devices via a multi-drop RS-485 connection. Cost-effective connection of devices to fieldbus/industrial Ethernet. ■ Simplify your network infrastructure Unlike chassis-integrated versions, the Anybus Communicator can be mounted on a DIN rail near the connected devices, thus freeing up space in the PLC rack and eliminating cabling problems. |
Feature 5 | Connecting slow serial devices without affecting their operation The Anybus Communicator stores and maps I/O data internally. The upper fieldbus/industrial Ethernet network is separated from the slower serial/CAN sub-network. This allows the integration of industrial devices with slower serial communication into a fast fieldbus/industrial Ethernet network without any restrictions to the upper network. |
